How to Administer Eye Medication to Your Pet
Properly applying eye medication is essential for treating infections, injuries, or other eye conditions in pets. Follow these simple steps for safe and effective application.
Administering Eye Medication to Your Pet
- Position your pet: Have your pet sit or lie down in a calm and comfortable area.
- Hold their head steady: Use one hand to gently hold the lower jaw or muzzle for stability.
- Lift the lower eyelid: With your left hand, gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
- Apply the medication: With your right hand, hold the medication bottle or tube above the eye and carefully squeeze the prescribed amount into the eye.
- Massage the medication: Gently massage the area around the eye to help distribute the medication evenly.
Our Tips
- Ensure the medication tip does not touch the eye to prevent contamination.
- Use a calm voice and gentle handling to keep your pet relaxed.
- If your pet resists, try wrapping them in a towel for gentle restraint.
