What do I need to know before my dog has surgery?
The most important part of surgery is risk mitigation. Most surgeries we perform are under general anesthesia. While no anesthesia is entirely safe, there are, however, safe anesthetic practices. This includes a thorough physical exam, pre-anesthetic tests such as blood work, and anything else that caters to your pet's unique needs. The most important part is being thorough on the front end, ensuring the surgery is safe and smooth, minimizing complications, or at least providing a better prediction of potential complications.
