What Is Fear Free Certification?

Fear Free Certification is a specialized veterinary training program that teaches veterinary professionals how to recognize and reduce fear, stress, and anxiety in pets during veterinary visits.

Fear Free Certified professionals use compassionate handling techniques, calming strategies, and individualized care approaches to make veterinary experiences more comfortable and emotionally supportive.

The goal is simple: create positive veterinary visits that strengthen trust between pets, pet owners, and veterinary teams.

What does it mean to be fear-free certified professionals?

At Highland Park Animal Hospital, we believe veterinary visits should feel calm, comfortable, and stress-free for every pet. Our Fear Free Certified team is specially trained to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress during your pet’s visit while creating a more positive experience for both pets and their families.

What Does a Visit for My Pet at Highland Park Animal Hospital Look Like with Fear Free Professionals?

A Fear Free visit starts before you even walk in the building. Our receptionist will guide you on how to best bring your pet here if you have concerns or need help. In our lobby, we have different waiting areas for dogs and cats. If a dog is really excited, we can immediately place them in an exam room to avoid a stressful situation. Once in the exam room, our doctors and technicians are trained to decrease fear for your pet, using techniques such as giving treats or using different handling methods to get the samples and testing that we need.
